Passions and Interests

Scientific Research

From research in epigenetics to inborn errors of metabolism to cell biology, every opportunity is a step forward in increasing our knowledge about cellular processes and diseases such as cancer.  Medicine may treat diseases, but research will cure them.

Computation and Coding

Computer Science has grown exponentially over the years, giving us enormous power from big data processing to global accessibility of data and knowledge.  It's an invaluable tool for sequencing and comparing genomes, modeling drug-cell mechanisms, and interpreting results.  I hope to use computer science effectively to solve many scientific questions.

Music Performance

Music and Scientific Research are both performing arts.  The countless hours spent practicing, experimenting, and refining alone are worth the reward of sharing these results through a public performance as a musician or a manuscript/presentation as a researcher.  I enjoy playing the double bass and learning the guitar in my free time after classes and work.

Cooking and Eating

Cooking is not only an important skill for self-preservation, but is also very mentally stimulating. I enjoy the challenges to my intuition and critical thinking skills when substituting ingredients and balancing tastes with textures to create the perfect dish. Cooking for my friends is a great way to just hang out and has led to many great cherished memories.
